5 Movies to Catch This Recess Week

Credit: Slash Film

School’s out! (for now). While we know that the recess week is subtly meant for us to do some catching up on our studies and prepare for our midterm examinations, it wouldn’t hurt to take a break and give our brains a treat.

Here are 5 movies you can watch this recess week:

1. The Foreigner

Jackie Chan is back! This time, with a more dramatic role. If you’re familiar with his movies, you’d know that he often stars in action movies that are laced with humour. This time, he takes on a more dramatic role of a grieving father who lost his daughter in a terrorist attack. His stunts are unravelled as we follow him through his journey in hunting down the men responsible for his daughter’s death.

2. Flatliners (2017)

Flatliners is a sequel to its first movie in 1990. It is a psychological horror film that tells the story of a group of medical students who engage in experiments to find out if there is a world of the afterlife. Unfortunately, they start getting haunted by their pasts and become increasingly unsure if they are hallucinating or facing reality.

As most of us were born after the first movie was screened, perhaps it’ll help to watch the 1990 version first before heading to the cinemas.

3. It

If you’ve still not watched this supernatural horror film, do go and catch It! This film is out to instill a fear of clowns in you, even if you’ve never feared them before. While It received a rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is not a movie to die for. Perhaps if you have time to spare, you can even watch the miniseries in your free time. Though I wouldn’t recommend it if you have midterm papers when school starts next week.

4. Kingsman: The Golden Circle

If you’re not into something too serious, Kingsman may help you break into some laughter. This action-packed spy film is a sequel to its 2014 movie, “Kingsman: The Secret Service”. The first film received positive reviews, with some praising it as an intelligent yet lighthearted movie. Unlike the typical secret agent movies like James Bond, this movie pokes fun at cheesy agent movies and induces laughter with its witty humour. With its successful first movie, the sequel is definitely something to look forward to.

5. Mother!

Mother! is a mystery drama film about a couple who was living peacefully in their home, until uninvited guests started visiting their house. Their relationship is threatened as the wife becomes increasingly paranoid of the visitors. This psychological horror drama shows a promise that it can keep you up on your seat throughout its entire length.

There you go! 5 movies that’ll fill your entire recess week, though I wouldn’t recommend getting too carried away and neglecting your revision. Have a great recess week! Now let me get back to my revision…
