5 Reasons Why You Should Volunteer Today

With the hustling and bustling of #UniversityLife, we, as students, would probably not have volunteerism at the top of our priority list. However, if you've been having the thought of volunteering at the back of your head but you are waiting for the right time or the motivation to get you fired up, here it is!

Here are 5 Reasons Why You Should Volunteer Today:

1. The Sense of Satisfaction from Making Another Smile

As cliché as it sounds, volunteering and seeing that smile at the end of the day does bring about an immense sense of satisfaction. Be it seeing a furry friend wag its tail after giving it love and care or hearing the genuine laughter of the children you've been with all day, these are the little things that probably warm your heart.

In fact, it has been reported that being helpful to others delivers immense pleasure, because the more we give, the happier we will feel.

2. #Throwback Secondary School CIP Days

Do you still remember what you did for CIP? Be it collecting newspapers, giving out oranges during Chinese New Year or spending some time with the elderly, you name it, we've done it! So why not relive the good ol' days by volunteering today!

3. Giving Back to the Community

We have been living in this tiny red dot that we call "home" for over 10 years. From making friends in kindergarten or childhood friends that stay in the same block as you, the community has certainly played a huge part in your life. So why not give back to the community by giving them your time and supporting whatever means of volunteerism there may be?

4. Give your Résume a little Sparkle ✨

It has been said that including volunteer work can give your resume a boost.

With the fact that “volunteer experience demonstrates your interest in building community and the likelihood that you will be a good citizen in the workplace", you might be a step ahead in clinching that dream job.

But of course, it would certainly be better if you volunteer on a regular basis and not just a one time thing.

5. Pick Up Valuable Skills

Besides learning how to paint (especially if you are doing it for the first time), you can pick up other valuable skills too through you journey as a volunteer. You could polish up on your Chinese dialect, pick up sign language and even learn the true meaning of life and happiness from kids. Think about it!

With that being said, if you are convinced and you are thinking of how or where you should start volunteering, check out Glyph's upcoming volunteering event.
